The Little Mermaid and Langelinie – Must Visit Place for Every Tourist that is Going to Copenhagen

Langelinie (The Long Line)

Langelinie is a beautiful tourist attraction in Downtown Copenhagen. For the people that are going to Copenhagen; it’s a port route located in downtown on the waterfront of Østerbro district in Copenhagen, not far from the city center. Originally Langelinie was a boardwalk that used to go all the way around Kastellet and in to the shoreline along the current Strandboulevard. The promenade was part of the military fortification of Copenhagen back in the days of conflict in Scandinavia, and regular people were not allowed to enter.

In 1848 the absolute monarchy was abolished and the area became open to the public. Today Langelinie consists of a park on the outer surface of Kastellet, a promenade and a marina on the 1 kilometer long pier that forms Langelinie. Nyhavn

Is a favorite place among the natives, and attraction for the tourists when going to Copenhagen! Everyone seem to love this cozy area around the canal, with all the street cafes and the buzzing life of people passing by. Nyhavn have become more and more popular over the past 20-ish years, and it is one of the most visited places in Copenhagen! It’s a harbor district, and in the summer time it’s crowded with people. It used to be more of a murky place with shadowy taverns and prostitutes, but today it’s nothing like that; the old taverns, and sailor bulges are now transformed into nice (though a little expensive) restaurants and cafes. A lot of people are eating their lunch on the bulwarks during the summer days, and sometimes you can also encounter performers and artists on the narrow streets of Nyhavn, Copenhagen.

SEB-bank and the surrounding patio

The SEB bank building

Lies on a recently designed harbor site that was once a parking lots, is now home to two 10-story buildings with glass and copper facades, and a patio around it that forms the roof of a parking area.
It’s all designed by Danish Architects Lundgaard & Tranberg and in my opinion they’ve done a real good job! The building lie just within walking distance, only 5 minutes away from Copenhagen Central Station if you follow Bernstorffgade.

The two buildings could not be conducted with the traditional prefabricated building element-style, which many – many buildings are constructed by, because of the buildings design. The SEB bank buildings are cast on-location using a technique which required that construction couldn’t be interrupted while it was being carried out! That means that for a whole three weeks, 50 workmen were on shifts around the clock, and there were always someone working with something every hour of the day.
