Kastellet

Today Kastellet is used mainly for military purposes, and houses many different organs in the middle of Copenhagen. Here we have the Defence Judge Advocate Corps, the Defence Intelligence, the Danish Home Guard, and it is a symbol of the old Danish military traditions. It is guarded by the Royal Guard, just like Amalienborg and Rosenborg Castles are, but here they are wearing their green uniform, and are not as many people on duty as those other places.

There are many old buildings in Kastellet, dating all the way back to 1704 and still standing today. Only the vegetation have been trimmed, and the buildings been restored a few times over the years.
Built as an old fortification of Copenhagen, it has the shape of a pentagram with bastions at the tips – ready to defend the capital. That shape as been preserved, but around it Langelinie, Østerport Station, among others, have been expanded over the years, which have …

Every Friday in the high season, Tivoli is having a number of great outdoor concerts.
That means: When you’ve paid the entrance to Tivoli: The concert on that given night is free! It’s mostly Danish bands and artists, and they are all amongst the best. So if you want to experience Danish or Scandinavian music when it is at it’s best then – GO!

This is surely a great way to experience some good music, if you have a trip to Tivoli planned anyway for the week. Make that trip to Tivoli on a friday instead of maybe a tuesday, and there’s an extra treat in store for you.

Christiania

Christiania, Copenhagen

The almost sanctuary like, urban space, that today forms Christiania, is the third most visited tourist attraction in Copenhagen. It is not only one of the most discussed locations and topics over the last few decades. The more than 150 buildings are of course a lucrative deal for the government to own, which is why there’s been so much fighting about the district over these past years.
Here you can find everything from theatres and smaller music venues, to cafes and restaurants, and grassy areas to sit, lie and relax at. You can also jog around the big lake that is part of Christiania, and experience some of the beautiful nature within Copenhagen.
